There exists evil in this world and we should not hide from that fact and try to ignore the rate and methods of its growth.

The evil that exists in this world will not destroy itself. It must be interfaced with and we must create social and economic structures capable of protection from tyranny through self-preparedness, coordination with allies, networking and resource exchange, etc. We need to build a safety net consisting of a decentralized network.

Ever-Expanding Shire 

The shire is not as protected as we think. In order to be resilient against hardships, we must create a shire that can truly protect us.

There are numerous ways in which this can be achieved.

We must consider: 

1. Backup plans such as backup properties
2. Mobility
3. Flexibility

It is the same with the local agora and beyond. We need to create the networks that are necessary to prevent tyranny.

You're a Yoda in the swamp. If you're a Yoda, and you're not trying to take down the empire, you might as well be in the swamp.

As if he had Luke do manual labor and learn how to survive in the swamp. He was showing Luke how to go out and shoot the Death Star. Or worse they're telling people that by learning and successfully surviving in the swamp, they can successfully defeat the Death Star. There are plenty of planets out there.
